Disability Services

The purpose of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is to extend to people with disabilities civil rights similar to those now available in the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, and religion through the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in the private sector employment, services rendered by state and local governments, places of public accommodation, transportation, and telecommunications services.

ASU Three Rivers is dedicated to accommodating students with disabilities, pursuant to federal and state laws. The College provides disability accommodations through the Office of Disability Services. Services available to students with disabilities include, but are not limited to, extended time on tests, note taking services, recording of class lectures, special seating arrangements, interpreter services, physical access to educational and related facilities and other reasonable accommodations. The College campus is also wheelchair accessible.

ASU Three Rivers requires students to have a licensed health care professional complete Health Care Professional Form before accommodations can be provided.  This form will document the disability and list specific accommodations recommended by the health care professional. Once completed, this form must be submitted to the ADA/Section 504 Coordinator in the Division of Student Affairs. For more information about the required documentation or any other disability services related question, please contact the ADA/Section 504 Coordinator:

OrbitNote

OrbitNote allows you to transform and interact with documents in a completely different way. Create an accessible, dynamic and collaborative space that works for everyone. Creating beautiful digital worksheets for your students is great. What’s even better is if they’re interactive, collaborative and editable. The ability for students to complete worksheets digitally and all in one place means that no work is ever misplaced. Students who struggle with cognitive skills aren’t disadvantaged by copying and pasting information from document to another. OrbitNote makes it simple to interact and collaborate in a PDF.

Coupled with Read&Write, OrbitNote can improve accessibility and engagement in your classroom. OrbitNote helps you to transform existing classroom resources into collaborative online documents, with all the familiar Read&Write tools that students will know and love.

Read&Write

Read&Write is a literacy support tool that offers help with everyday tasks like reading text out loud, understanding unfamiliar words, researching assignments and proofing written work.

Read&Write is particularly useful for supporting students with additional accessibility needs. With three specific tools (Screen Mask, Simplify and Talk&Type) alongside the reading and writing tools, helping to create a level playing field for all.
